1. Summary: Ryan Bingham flies around the country firing people. He’s good at his job and is constantly in the air flying from one city to another. He’s also an accumulator of frequent flyer miles and has a goal: he wants to get to 10 million miles. His routine is interrupted by the arrival of Natalie Keener who thinks the travel is unnecessary and the firings can be done through videoconferencing. Ryan’s boss loves the idea but wants Ryan to take Natalie on the road with him to show her how he does it. It proves to be a life lesson for Natalie after one of her counseling sessions goes wrong. Ryan also learns that some of the choices he’s made have not always been the correct one.

2. Application of an OB Concept:

Egocentrism: As the main purpose of his job, Ryan Bingham flies from one state to another just to personally fire people in a discrete and proper way. He focuses and cares more of himself than caring for the status and life of other people. He can be classified as an egocentric individual who does not really care about the negative changes that he will give to the people that he fires. Because of this unruly characteristics, he somewhat increases his attitude on the negative trait while decreasing his positive relationship to other people. Ryan’s egocentric attitude depicts the fact that he believes on him being more superior and powerful than others. This personality would lead to a downfall in his career even if this actions of his is part of his main job. The relationship of an individual to other people, especially his or her co-workers, is very important to increase teamwork and job performance within the organization. Through maintaining a good relationship or social network, an individual could achieve a better work space or atmosphere that would positively affect the company.

3. Reflection: The film focuses on the negative impact of a situation that involves firing someone and the unruly characteristics of doing so. I really liked the fact that the movie shows the impact and possible reactions of an employee of a company who is being fired. The film also depicts to its viewers how egocentrism affects a person and the people that he faces. For me, having this characteristics would lead to a downfall of the social network or relationship of an individual towards other people. In the movie, although firing is part of Ryan’s job, I think that he should have done it in a more respectable and caring way.
